We created Vault to bring together the leading developers in file systems and storage in the Linux kernel with related projects to forge a path to continued innovation and education. And as the cloud, Internet and most data intensive workloads have moved to Linux, so has the need for a dedicated conference. As data has exploded so has the need for filesystem and storage innovation. Why have a conference about Linux storage and filesystems? Over the last few years we have had enormous demand for conference education on Linux storage and file systems. Submit a session proposal and register to get your space. The call for proposals will remain open until December 1. We’re currently accepting submissions for Vault, The Linux Foundation’s Linux storage and filesystem conference, happening this March 11 and 12 in Boston, MA.

Every day you are faced with multiple decisions, knowing that a single mistake can damage both your company's fortunes and your own. Each educational program focuses on different business topics and concepts related to the agribusiness industry you serve, including: marketing, sales, finance, talent management and strategy.Being a strategic leader isn't easy. #1. the anchoring trap professional#Learn MoreĬheck out our upcoming programs and exceed your professional development goals! Position yourself to excel in your career by attending one of our professional development workshops. Others include the sunk-cost trap, which can cause perpetuation of past mistakes the overconfidence trap, in which the decision-maker overestimates the accuracy of forecasts the recallability trap, which can cause decision makers to give too much weight to recent events and the prudence trap, which can lead decision makers to be overly cautious in making estimates.īeing aware that these traps exist and considering them throughout the decision process can ultimately help decision makers choose to pursue the most sound of the options for their businesses. These are just a few examples of psychological traps that decision makers fall into in the business world. “Always consider various ways to evaluate a situation.” Other Traps “Never look at a problem from only its original frame,” Widmar says. The framing trap happens when options are presented in ways that can change perspective. “When you seek input, avoid sharing your ideas first so the person giving the advice doesn’t fall into the anchoring trap.” Framing Trap “Don’t seek out one-sided information and advice you know will tilt the decision-making process,” Widmar says. The confirming evidence trap refers to seeking out biased advice or information that supports a particular option, and discounting any opposing information.Īvoiding this trap is about seeking out a variety of information from trusted sources and weighing it equally. Widmar says the key is to ask yourself, “If I weren’t currently choosing this option, would I choose it from my alternatives?” Confirming Evidence Trap Settling for what already is can blind the decision maker to superior alternatives. The status quo trap is one in which the decision maker is biased toward options that are similar to the current situation. “Carefully seek others’ input to compare and contrast with your own,” she says. The keys to avoiding them are open-mindedness and critical thinking. They could come from old data or even from stereotypes. In the words of Hammond, Keeney and Raiffa, “The anchoring trap leads us to give a disproportionate weight to the first information we receive.”Īccording to Widmar, anchors come in all forms. The original question surrounding the decision you are trying to make has already created an anchor. The anchoring trap is an easy one to fall for. #1. the anchoring trap series#Keeney and Howard Raiffa offer a series of common psychological traps that affect the way people make decisions. In their 2006 Harvard Business Review Article, “The Hidden Traps in Decision Making,” John S. “Understanding what these traps are and how they affect decision making is critical to understand how people arrive at their conclusions.” “Decision traps are built-in flaws in our thinking,” she says. Psychological traps are easy to fall for when it comes to making business (or any) decisions, says Nicole Widmar, associate professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University. Sometimes the fault for sub-optimal decisions comes not from the decision-making process, the intel gathered or the analysis completed, but rather, the mind of the decision maker. Even in circumstances where analysis is complete and the path forward seems relatively clear, decision-making can be a challenge. The firm now owns some 25 hectares in locations such as Avize, Chouilly, Le Mesnil, Oger, and Vertus. House production is estimated to be around the 1-1.3 million bottle mark, much of which is exported. Joseph passed away in 2015 and son Thomas now rules the empire. In 1994, Joseph decided it was time to buy back the family house, although it did not come with the vineyards. Henriot was the chairman of the Louis Vuitton board and it was he who then merged Louis Vuitton with Moët Hennessy, thereby creating the monolithic LVMH. At this stage, it was merely Louis Vuitton. Joseph then assisted in initiating a sale of Veuve Clicquot to LVMH (or at least what would become LVMH). The price was 11 percent of Veuve Clicquot. In 1975, he seized the opportunity to take over the then struggling Charles Heidsieck (he had the insight to appoint the legendary chef de cave Daniel Thibault, the man responsible for the extraordinary 1995 Blanc des Millenaires, a champagne that we are still enjoying today and that seems to get better every time a bottle is opened), merging the two houses into a single business and running both until 1985 when he sold to Veuve Clicquot. Joseph had studied agronomy in Paris in the 1950s before joining the family house. As mentioned, Joseph was a powerful man in the French wine industry. Joseph took over in 1962 (Etienne had passed away in 1957, the year Joseph joined the company at the age of 21). He expanded vineyards, ensuring that they were of the highest quality. In 1926, Etienne Henriot took over and dedicated himself to repairing the damage caused by both phylloxera and World War I. Ernest also established another house with his brother-in-law, the house we know today as Charles Heidsieck. Originally, the house sold its wines as Veuve Henriot.Īpolline’s grandson, Ernest, took over and in 1875 expanded both holdings and production (one descendent, Paul, had the foresight to marry into a family well stocked with elite vineyards). She was apparently very skilled at the business as it flourished both in France and abroad, especially Holland, Austria, and Hungary. Apolline, yet another of the astonishing women of Champagne, stepped up and created her own house. The genesis of Henriot dates back to a marriage in 1794 between Nicolas Simon Henriot and Apolline Godinot.Īpolline was the niece of Abbot Godinot, the man who, among various contributions to the creation and improvement of champagne, was said to have produced a set of rules in 1718 based on the dictates of Dom Pérignon himself (rather bizarrely, he was also very keen on promoting the construction of public fountains).Īs he died around 50 years before the marriage one suspects that not only were they unacquainted but that perhaps he was a great uncle or even more removed. Records suggest that the Henriots have been in the Champagne region since at least the sixteenth century, working in textiles and slowly acquiring vineyards. The Henriot clan has not poured all its effort into champagne: it also owns esteemed producers Bouchard (Burgundy), William Fèvre (Chablis), and Villa Ponciago in Beaujolais, originally called Château de Poncie. It is rare for a house of this importance to be under family control, but this has been the position with Henriot since 1994 (and most of its history), when one of the most powerful men in the French wine industry, Joseph Henriot, left Veuve Clicquot to purchase and manage the estate once belonging to his family. Henriot, based in Reims, enjoyed its bicentenary in 2008, which is fortuitous as that is such an amazing vintage. The LED isn’t bright and isn’t visible unless you have the monitor mounted rather high up or are viewing from below or some distance back. Regardless of setting used, it blinks dark red when the monitor initially enters a low power state (signal to the system is lost). If using the ‘Stand-by’ setting instead, it glows a dim red when it enters a deep standby state – which occurs if no signal is received for a while (‘Eco Timer’ enabled) or it it’s switched off using the power button. This glows quite a dim red when the monitor is switched on (‘Power LED ON’ set to ‘Working’ in OSD). There’s a reasonably dim power LED which faces downwards to the right of the controls. We found these quite intuitive, though quite firm and not the easiest to press – our preference goes to a more traditional joystick design for OSD control. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by directional buttons beneath the central region of the bottom bezel. The key feature at the front is the screen itself, which has a light to very light matte anti-glare finish and relatively steep (1000R) curve – both explored deeper into the review. There is quite a bit of wobble to the screen when repositioning it or using the OSD controls at the bottom, for example. The monitor and stand when considered separately still have a fairly robust feel, but the screen isn’t held in place on the stand very firmly. The stand neck is a reasonably solid-feeling plastic – we tend to prefer the look and feel of coated metal for such stand elements. The ‘penguin foot’ stand base is metal-weighted with a matte plastic coating, providing decent weightiness to things but without the same ‘premium feel’ as a coated metal stand. Including both components, the bezels are~9mm (0.35 inches). Samsung odyssey g7 neo plus#The top and side bezels use a slimmer dual-stage design, with thin panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus slim hard plastic outer part. The total thickness of the bottom bezel is ~36mm (1.42 inches), including the ‘cheeks’. They aren’t angled appropriately or bright enough to create a pool of light on the desk. They’re inset in such a way that they’re either not visible or only partially visible from a normal viewing position in front of the monitor, but more visible from beneath or when viewing the screen further back. And RGB LED lighting elements at the bottom, which form part of the ‘Infinity Core Lighting’ feature which can be customised or disabled in the OSD (On Screen Display). There are two ‘cheeks’, one at each side of the bottom bezel, with a darker matte plastic section. From the front, dark matte plastic is used extensively for the neck, stand base and bottom bezel. The monitor offers some of the distinctive styling elements the company’s Odyssey offerings are known for. Some of the key ‘talking points’ for this monitor have been highlighted in blue below, for your reading convenience. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, but as usual you shouldn’t pay too much attention to specified response times. A 165Hz refresh rate and 3840 x 2160 resolution is supported, alongside 10-bit colour. The monitor is based on a 31.5” CSOT VA (Vertical Alignment) panel with 1000R (relatively steep) curve. Samsung odyssey g7 neo movie#We put this very interesting model through its paces in our usual suite of ‘real world’ tests, spanning usage on the desktop, movie watching and of course gaming. Samsung odyssey g7 neo series#To broaden the appeal to console gamers, HDMI 2.1 is also included for ‘4K’ UHD and VRR support for compatible consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X. With its curved ~32” ‘4K’ UHD screen, 165Hz refresh rate and Mini LED backlight solution that’s exactly what the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (S32BG75) aims to deliver. Some seek an immersive gaming experience under both SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) and HDR (High Dynamic Range). Though too far away to be seen directly, the team identified the bright spot in the images as the comet’s nucleus. Hui and Jewitt’s team used Hubble to take five photos of the comet on January 8, 2022. The researchers found the comet is at least 130km in diameter. NASA Hubble Space Telescope observations were needed to see the solid “nucleus” of the comet behind the huge dusty shield enveloping it. “We guessed the comet might be pretty big, but we needed the best data to confirm this.” “This is an amazing object, given how active it is when it’s still so far from the Sun,” says lead author Man-To Hui from the Macau University of Science and Technology. “We’ve always suspected this comet had to be big because it is so bright at such a large distance. “This comet is literally the tip of the iceberg for many thousands of comets that are too faint to see in the more distant parts of the solar system,” Jewitt says. It was discovered by accident in 2010 by astronomers Pedro Bernardinelli and Gary Bernstein when it was nearly five billion kilometres from the Sun they came across it when studying archival images from the Dark Energy Survey at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile.Ī new study of the comet, published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters, was co-authored by Professor David Jewitt of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), US. The four billion-year-old comet has been falling toward the Sun for well over one million years. The gargantuan comet headed our way is called Comet C/2014 UN271. More on astronomy: Are mysterious temperature patterns on Neptune signs a GoT-style winter is coming? But at the head of every comet is a ball of ice and dust. When observed, comets have a characteristic tail, sometimes stretching millions of kilometres, made of ice and gas. They are now thought to exist in the hypothesised Oort Cloud – a vast reservoir of comets flung billions of kilometres beyond the farthest planets encircling the Sun. This time.Ĭomets are the icy remnants of the period of planet formation in the early solar system. This comet will only get as close as 1.6 billion kilometres from the Sun in 2031, so we’re in no danger. But don’t lock yourselves away in your bunkers just yet.
